TO mark Peace One Day, a survivor of a concentration camp will be talking about her experiences. Hanneke Coates was born just before the start of the Second World War on the island of Java. After Pearl Hearbour and the invasion of the Japanese, she spent three and a half years of her childhood in one of the 300 or so concentration camps around the archipelago, which most held women and children. At an event to mark Peace One Day at St James' Chapel, Okehampton, on Friday, September 19, Hanneke will talk about her journey to forgiveness she has been on since then to forgive what her captors did to her and her family. Also planned is a presentation of words, music and film entitled Peace Through the Eyes of Children. The event runs from 11am to 3pm.
