THE 'Big Dig' turned out to be a big success for the Okehampton Community Garden on Saturday.
The garden held its second spring community open day on Saturday as part of Sustain's 'The Big Dig', a national day of community gardening.
The Big Dig encourages people into their local gardens to get their hands dirty and prepare the gardens for the new growing season.
Jobs carried out at the garden included getting the children's gardening area ready for planing, distributing manure into growing areas and pruning trees in the orchard.
Fran Rickwood of Okehampton Community Garden's committee said: 'We had lovely weather, great cakes, fantastic company, wonderful views and a lovely community atmosphere.
'We had all ages helping out from little tots through to teenagers, including two teenagers from Okehampton College doing their Duke of Edinburgh volunteer work with us.
'All is well up at Okehampton Community Garden, hoorah!'
The garden committee will be arranging the community dig days for once a month following the success of the first two spring events.
