A DAY to raise children's awareness of disability was held recently at Whitchurch Community Primary School.

Disability Awareness Day began with the deputy mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Marjorie Corner, talking to the children about disability at assembly.

During the day, pupils from all age groups learned about sign language and disability issues with an occupational therapist.

The Guide Dog

Association brought some newly trained dogs to the school and showed the children how they were trained to help a visually impaired owner.

The purpose of the day was for children to understand that everyone has different abilities and skills, and to help overcome some of the barriers created by disability.
