AN 'invasion' of artisan cheesemakers will take place in Tavistock on the August Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday and Sunday August 23 and 24. The annual 'cheese party' in the Tavistock Town Hall is now in its third year and is run by the award-winning Tavistock cheese shop, Country Cheeses. Elise Jungheim, of Country Cheeses, said: 'It's really wonderful that for the second year running, Cropwell Bishop, who Stilton lovers will know make the finest Stilton, are sponsoring the event again. 'Ian Skailes, the managing director of the family- run Cropwell Bishop, and the recent recipient of the John Davidge award for exceptional contribution to cheesemaking, is a staunch supporter of the art.' The cream of cheesemakers will be on hand in the town hall to explain their fascinating art. There will also be local wine makers, a proper cider maker and authentic ale brewers. Elise said: 'All these people are truly in touch with every aspect of what they produce. These cheeses, wines, ales and cider all reflect the passion of the maker and the soil from where they are made. 'We also have cheese making demonstrations and talks throughout the weekend. Come and watch soft cheese being made before your eyes by one of the country's leading authorities on cheese, known affectionately by us as "the cheese doctor"! 'This show works on all levels. It has a serious message with seriously awesome products, delivered in a fun, tasty and inspirational way — and it's free to everyone.'
