TAVISTOCK’S Meadows Makeover Group will be celebrating the redevelopment of the park—during National Cream Tea Week — with a giant tea party in the Meadows this Sunday (August 16) between 2pm and 6.30pm.

The event will be opened by Tavistock mayor Sue Bailey and will feature live music from the bandstand by the Stannary Brass Band and a wide range of groups. There will also be demonstrations of Tae kwondo and a giant bubble show. All sorts of fun activities will be present, from a bouncy castle to the opportunity to soak a councillor!

Meadows Group organiser Mia Holman said: ‘We had about £2,500 left over from the installation of the very popular zip-wire and if we can raise another £2,500 we can install another range of equipment such as a play train and pretend shop. We have to take the opportunity to thank the town council which has been absolutely fantastic and the generosity of locals and businesses without which this project just couldn’t happen.’

The Meadows Makeover is also having a bonus beyond what was expected, as Mia explained: ‘We have been visiting the park and speaking with the people using it, and we are finding a substantial number from outside Tavistock. They are telling us that they like the park — and that they also like the town with it’s shops and cafes and Dartmoor beyond. This means that there is a spend coming back in to the town which makes all that generosity worthwhile.’ See advert below.
