Old Father Christmas, St George and a Doctor are just a few of the characters who will bring cheer to a traditional Christmas Mummers Play that will be performed by members of Lodestone morris dancers tonight (Thursday), Saturday 12 and on Thursday December 17.

Master Mummer, Steve Newland said: 'We will be performing the short play at six venues as part of the festive season.

'Mummers Plays were a serious visiting custom back in Victorian times, from which we have a tentative link to a play performed in Tavistock.

'These plays were at their height then. They feature a "comical" pagent of characters and a glimpse of medieval symbolism.

'Our rendition has a pre-modern Father Christmas and England's patron saint, St George. As is tradition, the performers will be disguised.'

Saturday 12th Horrabridge Got Talent Evening, Primary School 7.30pm.

Thursday 17th: 8pm London Inn, Horrabridge; 8.30pm Drake Manor, Buckland Monachorum; 9pm Rock Inn, Yelverton.
