BECAUSE of the thin soil Tavistock golf course drains very quickly so there are no temporary tees or greens in this wet weather.  This great advantage enables matches and competitions to take place — unless there is an absolute deluge!

The Goddard Smith Trophy, played in conjunction with the August medal, was won by Maggie Hillman with nett 79; runner up was Trudie Luke nett 80. 

The winner of division one was Dawn Phillott with nett 78 and in division two Margot Angel, with a nett 77.  Partners, high and low, are drawn for the Foursomes Cup which was won this year by Sally Timpson and Maggie Hill witha nett 74; runners up were Ruth Myott and Myra Sussex with nett 78.5.

Myra and Ruth were also the winning pair when they won the Truscott Pitman Trophy the following week with 38points; Fran Horton and Julie Harding were second with 32pts.

In division one of the the mens' N Chinn Stableford Ray Steer had 37 pts followed closely by Shaun Kiely with 36 and Dave Burge with 35.  In division two, 1, Mark Russell, 36; 2, Darren Hall, 35 on countback from Rod Williams; division three, 1, Gareth George 43; 2, Paul Vickers 38; 3 Mike Western, 35.

The Harvey Frost Trophy, a mixed foursomes competition, was a closely fought match and was won by Dave and Peggy Burge with 41pts on countback from Alan Gawman and Kerry Baker and Nigel and Sally Timpson.

August Bank Holiday is traditionally President's Day when the club president, Dennis Greening, donates the prizes.  As usual the day was well supported by members.  The top three in this year's competition were Max Clarke with 46pts with Chris Gawman gaining second place with 40pts on countback from Graham Beasley. 

The winning lady was Lyn Jones with 38pts. In the evening the president and his wife held a dinner for club officers when he thanked them for their hard work on behalf of the club.
