A CHARITY which provides purposeful activities for people with disabilities has reopened a community café in Okehampton.

Made-Well has taken over running the café at Castle Ham Lodge in Castle Road, which provides an extra care housing scheme.

The scheme consists of 50 purpose-built flats and supplementary facilities for the community.

The café officially opened on Monday, August 13.

The charity envisages the café at Castle Ham Lodge becoming a thriving, vibrant place at the heart of the community, open to the public as well as residents of Castle Ham Lodge.

It will be stocked with a regular supply of farm-reared meat and seasonal vegetables produced at Made-Well and is serving cakes, light lunches and refreshments.

Tracey Ward said: ‘I am the new manager of the cafe at Castle Ham Lodge. I am very excited to begin working here and opening the cafe up to residents and the public.’

Laura Feaver, manager at Made-Well, said: ‘The cafe will also offer supported employment for people attending Made-Well, giving them the opportunity to learn skills in hospitality while working in an authentic café environment. Made-Well are thrilled to start this new local venture.’
