Devon & Exeter Senior 3

South Zeal Utd 3

Honiton 4

ZEAL were unlucky not to have got something out of this game on Saturday.

They outplayed Honiton from the start but could not convert pressure into goals. Against the run of play the visitors took the lead after 15 minutes when a good through ball saw one of the Honiton strikers finish well past Adam Cann in the Zeal goal.

Zeal equalised ten minutes later when Harley Cann hit a tremendous free kick from 20 yards into the top right hand corner of the visitors? net. Zeal kept the pressure up but went two one down several minutes later, again against the run of play, when a poor clearance enabled the Honiton forwards to break and score their second.

With ten minutes of the first half left Zeal equalised when Steve Pillivant hit a tremendous shot past the Honiton keeper from 25 yards.

Zeal should have gone in at half-time 3-2 up when Harley Cann was brought down inside the area, but the resulting penalty hit the post.

Zeal went ahead with 20 minutes of the match remaining when Harley Cann robbed the Honiton left back and set up Nick Pollard to finish well from close range. Several good chances were then missed as in several games this season and Zeal paid the price as Honiton scored twice to snatch all three points.

Zeal had a poor start to the season and were in the relegation zone until several weeks ago when a tremendous effort from the players saw them take 12 points out of a possible 15 to stay up.

The previous week Zeal played away to East Budleigh where they lost 3-2. Nick Pollard (penalty) and Harley Cann (best goal of the season) were the scorers for Zeal.

The club expressed thanks to its supporters for seeing them through a difficult year.
