Tavistock Pumas 2
OPM Valley 1
PUMAS mixed hockey team played OPM and both teams had to battle with wind, rain and hail.
OPM attacked and the midfield of John Barratt, Matt Way and Dom Lovett worked hard to stop them from coming over the halfway line.
Tavistock had some good lead runs with the ball but were unable to finish into the goal. Tom Honey and Jo Gaspar worked hard in the D.
The odd time that OPM did have a break, Kevin Lethbridge was strong as sweeper and prevented them from entering the D. With good early calls from James Pitts, goalkeeper, Tavistock were quick to pick up floating players. A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and Gaspar took a strong strike at goal. The keeper defended it but none of the Tavistock forwards were able to pick up the rebound shot.
A short corner was given to the opposition. Despite Tavistock being out to the ball quickly, the opposition scored through a hefty strike.
Pumas knew they should have secured the game earlier and this drove the team to equalise within minutes of the first goal. Lovett took a strike which the keeper was unable to save.
A good team talk boosted Tavistock?s confidence at half-time and the second half saw them more dominant. Honey and Lovett played well and, linked with Stapleton and Barratt, were able to feed the ball to a running Way and Gaspar.
Way saw Lovett near the goalmouth and switched the ball to him to score the second goal for Pumas.
The whistle for full time went 12 seconds after.
The Pumas play today (Thursday) at Marjons at 8.15pm against Heles.
