A NORWICH woman is asking Times readers for help in locating descendants of a West Devon family.

Maggie Vaughan-Lewis is on a quest to find any descendants of the Laverty family, whom she knew lived in Tavistock in 1950.

Mrs Vaughan-Lewis said: 'My father-in-law, who died some years ago, did not know his father, Lt Cdr William Lewis, as his parents divorced when he was about seven.

'William Lewis — full name William Mervyn Vaughan Lewis — retired from the Royal Navy and married a Tavistock girl called Dorothy Laverty in November 1927.

'We have no photos of him or her.

'They lived in Surrey until he died in 1937.

'I know her family were still living in Abbey Mead, Tavistock in 1950 and would love to know if any Laverty descendants are still in the area.'

Mrs Vaughan-Lewis wants to know what happened to Dorothy Laverty after Lt Cdr William Lewis died — whether she moved back to Devon — as she knows that a Terence Laverty lived at the same address in 1953.
