THE second race in the Tavistock area Primary Schools cross country league, organised by Tavistock Athletic Club, took place at Princetown. Princetown Primary were hosting their first ever area sports event and what a magnificent job they did said Martin Exley from TAC. Despite heavy rainfall on the previous two days an excellent cross-country course was laid on that proved a test for all the runners. The fun run, the two mile girl's race and boys' race saw a total of 170 children from 12 local primary schools taking part. A large group of supporters turned up to watch the races which were held in magnificent sunshine. In the girls' race the one-two-three of the first race at St Peters was repeated with Annabel Longden (Tavistock Primary) again leading home Emma Champion (St Peters) and Danielle Young (Princetown). In the boys' race it wasn't quite the same story but Harry Eaton (Milton Abbot) made it a double with his second victory over Will Carter (Tavistock). Reece Worth (Tavistock) moved up a place from the first race to take third spot. In the team racing Tavistock held on to their league leadership and have opened up a four point gap over St Peters and Whitchurch, who are tied on 72 points. Milton Abbot are just five points off the leaders. At the lower end of the table the small schools of Lamerton, Gulworthy and Mary Tavy are having their own battle with just two points separating them. These three teams will be battling just as hard as the bigger schools at the final race at Meavy Primary School on the April 3.
