BELL ringing, dog agility, golf, horse riding, railways and vintage car spares are among the subjects students of a recent evening class in Okehampton have created websites about. Mature students who attended the ten-week ?Easy Website? design course at Okehampton College all succeeded in creating their own sites. Now the tutor, Peter Preston from Folly Gate, is about to run a second course. Peter said he had been delighted with the progress of the students. ?None had designed web pages previously, some were even complete computer novices, yet within a few weeks they were all producing web pages,? he said. Using the manual ?Easy Web Pages? written by the tutor, students are able to work at their own pace using simple coding techniques. One student Catharine Douglas-Wallace of Dartmoor Railway, who has already signed up for next term said: ?This course was nowhere near as complicated as I expected and I have earned great kudos from my niece, who is aged 17.? All students need in order to complete the course is a few floppy disks. There is no need to buy any commercial software to complete the course, although a CD containing useful utilities and some software donated by the authors is available from the tutor.
