THOUSANDS of pounds were raised at an annual golf tournament and presented to the Children?s Hospice South West recently. The 10th annual Okehampton and District Lions Club Charity Golf Day, held at Okehampton Golf Club, raised £5,500 for the charity. Sharon White, a representative of the charity attended the prize giving in the evening and was presented with the cheque by Lions president Ron Jewell. The Lions Club expressed thanks to Venue Check, Okehampton, St Austell Breweries, Ashley Moon, Okehampton Golf Professional, B J Barkwell, Team Okehampton, Ross Campbell, Fulford?s Estate Agents, Okehampton Glass, South West Highways, Specsavers, Tarka Springs, Wolesley UK, National Grid and Clydesdale Bank for all their donations and help with the event. The grand draw which was also held on the golf day was won by Carol Holt of Okehampton. Next year?s annual golf day will be held on Friday, September 1 2006, and the organisers are looking forward to another successful event. l For report of winners and cheque presentation see page 52.
