THE Radio Light Orchestra returns to the Devonport Playhouse for another afternoon of light music on Sunday November 18, with a concert called ?Those Magical Musicals?. Conducted by Major Barrie Mills, formerly director of the Royal Marines Plymouth Band, the concert is built round classics of the musical stage and screen like High Society, Phantom of the Opera, Camelot, The Mikado etc. Star performer is tenor Samuel Holmes who first appeared with the RLO back in July at the Whiteford Festival, where he delighted a capacity crowd of 850. Samuel hails from Plymouth, where he began performing at the age of two and a half! After studying with Norma Blake at the Raleigh School of Speech and Drama, he went on to train at Millennium Dance 2000. Credits include The Twelve Tenors and The Merry Widow with the Carl Rosa Opera Company, The Spirit of Broadway in which he has performed in India, South Korea, Jakarta and Portugal, My Fair Lady in Singapore and most recently The Pirates of Penzance in the USA and Canada. Samuel is now back in the UK and touring the country in Half a Sixpence playing the role of Sid Pornick alongside that well-known stage star Gary Wilmot.
