Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 1 Plymouth Parkway 1 THE Lambs gained another welcome point from this entertaining encounter at Langsford Park. They had already beaten their opponents in both the league away from home and knocked them out of the league cup early on in the season. But it was a combination of some great goalkeeping by Craig Howells, stout defending, an element of luck and some very poor finishing from Parkway that got them the point. Howells was off his line as early as the third minute to deny former Lambs striker Marcus Crocker. Daniel Worth shot wide for the visitors and Mark Conday was unlucky as he just failed to get on the end of a cross after Craig Hodge and John Gosling combined to set him up. Worth made amends for his earlier miss when on 20 minutes he got down the wing to send in a cross that Howells could only parry and it fell invitingly for Koran Whitfield to blast home from close range. The Lambs deservedly drew level with seven minutes of the first half remaining when Hodge set up Will Westlake to go wide of his marker to send in a shot that beat keeper James Dungey. They then had the chance to go ahead but James Steer shot just over. A Parkway player sliced his clearance over his own bar and Conday got clear only to see his effort blocked. The game could have gone either way in the second half with Dungey tipping over a Duncan Duthie free kick early on and Darren Edwards heading straight at the keeper and looping another effort over the bar. Sean Cann came to the Lambs? rescue with 20 minutes remaining when he cleared off his line from Whitfield and Westlake shot wide as he closed in on goal. A triple substitution for the Lambs almost paid dividends with five minutes left as Paul Dugard found himself in space but his effort was off target. The game was drawing to a close when Worth had a gilt-edged chance as the ball fell to him two yards out, but his header hit the cross bar in what could be only described as the miss of the season. Equally guilty was former Lambs striker Kevin Parker who raced clear of the defence only to be out-foxed by Howells who snatched the ball off his toes as he tried to go around him. Perhaps the Lambs are just starting to turn the corner and hopefully will be able to climb the table over Christmas and the New Year.
