THE glazing of the perimeter of Tavistock’s Pannier Market as proposed by Mr Hawkins could, surely, be incorporated in the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI).

It would provide a shopping arcade not quite as grand as London’s Piccadilly Arcade but it would be an attractive adjunct to the splendid, bright, warm hall of hugely varied tables and kiosks that is the market.

Gone are the days of sub zero temperatures, dim lights and the annual livestock show.
