NEVER mind Strictly Come Dancing, it?s time to dust off your dancing shoes and get down to the town hall in Tavistock this month, as a new course of lessons especially for beginners swings into action. The 50s-style jive lessons are being taught by jive expert Malcolm White ? the first taster session will be absolutely free and will be followed by eight more lessons, culminating in a free jive dance. Eddie Carruthers, Tavistock Pannier Market reeve, said he hoped the sessions would prove a real draw: ?I?d like to learn to dance properly myself. ?I think it will be a great thing for Tavistock and it should be great fun ? and it?s a good way to get fit.? Mr Carruthers said he already had more than 25 people express an interest in the jive nights. The town hall bar will be open for every session, which is open to men and women of all ages, in singles or couples. The optimum number of people per lesson will be 36 ? if the sessions prove really popular, they could be extended to two nights a week. The taster session will take place on Wednesday May 24, starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 9pm. The lessons will follow every Wednesday at the same time with the last one taking place on July 26. The date of the jive dance will be announced shortly. Anyone interested in taking part in the jive sessions can call Dave or Duane at Tavistock Town Hall on 01822 617232.
