FEW bands have created such an electrifying and vibrant buzz around them as Cornwall based heavy metal band King Creature.
And what better way to launch Tavistock Wharf’s 2016 run of rock concerts than a band currently blazing their way up through the ranks which has seen them play the Hard Rock Hell festival in Wales and last June support Motorhead at the Eden Project, which given the recent sad passing of notorious frontman ‘Lemmy’ will poignantly be remembered as one of the highlights of their career to date.
They will be playing at the Tavistock venue this Saturday (January 30).
King Creature are Dave Kellaway on bass and lead vocals, Matt K Vincent on lead guitar, Dave Evans on lead guitar and Jack Bassett on drums. They formed in 2013 and released their debut self-titled EP in 2014.
Likened by many to Black Label Society, Pantera and Alice in Chains, King Creature’s powerful sound comes from the pairing of two technically-gifted lead guitarists, a heavy groove-based rhythm section and melodic old school dirty rock vocals.
Their high-energy live performances have blown away audiences across the South West and their national reputation has grown as result.
In 2014 they played at Bloodstock in Derbyshire, the UK’s biggest independent metal festival, alongside Down, Emperor, Megadeth, Hellyeah and Saxon.
This will be the band’s first visit to The Wharf and in keeping with the rock and roll brotherhood they are bringing their friends, another Cornish metal band Loft, a band following in their footsteps.
Exploding onto the Cornish rock scene in 2014, Loft comprises of Rob Summers (vocals), Denn Leavy (guitar), Bob Barnes (guitar), Tats McGee (drums) and Phil Rollason (bass).
Singer Rob is from the heavy metal city of Birmingham. He has toured the country singing with glam rockers Sweet Seduction and metallers Point Blank Fury.
He is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, a true lover of all that is riff-laden, who loves melodic hooks and soaringly high screams. He has found an excuse to do both in Loft.
Bob plays second guitar for the band having previously been in Kamajor and Hedge Dweller.
Denn, former member of Bad Channels and Mutant Lion Massacre, plays lead guitar.
Guitarists he looks up to include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Slash, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert, and as blues and metal are styles he loves playing, it makes Loft the perfect band for him.
Phil likes a good fast riff and speed rhythm playing, counting Sepultura, Slayer and Megadeth as his main early influences, leading to styles like Sick Of It All and Korn. His first band Embedded, which tore up stages around the South West in the mid-90s, also included Loft’s drummer Tats McGee on drums.
This is set to be a killer gig for heavy metal fans.
