I HAVE recently carried out some 'survey' work in the West Devon area, and I have been amazed, as well as confused, by the poor identification of houses in the area.

Many house-names and/or street numbers are covered by greenery, badly positioned or just not there. Whilst it is no more than an inconvenience to the casual visitor some serious thought should be given to the effect on the emergency services who might have to spend those vital extra few minutes searching for the correct location.

I would suggest that all of your readers check now that the name or number of their residence — flat, house or farm — is clearly displayed in a position to assist all callers.

This simple measure could prevent the most serious of consequences.
