IS this democracy? Why is the status quo so unacceptable as regards Burrator and the surrounding area?

Your newspaper has faithfully catalogued the ongoing saga of the future of Burrator Reservoir. For the benefit of those unacquainted with the facts strong feelings have surfaced after a long period of time with a massive majority coming out in favour of retaining a much loved beauty spot just as it is.

These opinions have evolved as the result of public meetings and groups and societies with the interest of Dartmoor in mind.

South West Lakes Trust are persisting in pursuing plans for an 'improvement' programme for visitors to the lake. Why should the wishes of all the people who regularly visit and love the area be flouted in such a manner?

I believe in democracy and think it is wrong to ignore the wishes of the people.

Why does this independent charity insist on 'promoting and enhancing with ambitious plans to radically upgrade existing facilities'?

Does the Trust have to justify expenditure on salaries by changing for change's sake — regardless of the cost to the environment?

Why have advisory groups when the relevant people have already expressed their opinion?

Please keep one of the ever diminishing areas of peace and quiet, not just for the current population but for the benefit of generations to come.
