FREE swimming lessons are being offered to over 11s at Meadowlands Leisure Pool in Tavistock and Okehampton Leisure Centre.

In line with the Leisure Centre's commitment to encourage more people to be more active, the free swimming lesson initiative, launched last year, has been extended due to popular demand.

The free classes, funded by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), are available for non and weak swimmers and are a great way to become more water-confident and enjoy being active in the pool.

So far more than 1,500 people have enjoyed free swimming lessons.

Chris Perry, senior contract manager in West Devon for Leisure Connection, said: 'Although swimming is a fantastic way to keep active, we have found a lot of people are quite nervous in the pool, so this initiative is fantastic for apprehensive swimmers as it allows them to build their confidence in the water and enjoy all the benefits that swimming brings.

'Those who take advantage will be entitled to six hours' worth of tuition, completely free of charge.'

Anyone interested should contact their nearest centre.
