THE Lambs? battle for second spot took a jolt with this defeat at Torpoint. But they could have taken a shock first-minute lead ? Lee Doncaster went on a run from the kick-off but his shot lacked power and pace to trouble keeper Simon Zinn.
Torpoint put the pressure on the Lambs in the last 15 minutes of the half with Andy Meeds bringing off the save of the game to push away Mike Roberts? first time volley.
Torpoint then forced eight corners right up to the stroke of half-time and the Lambs finally conceded. Mark Crowley?s cross was not dealt with by the defence. Meeds could not cut it out and Adam Bance was at the far post to slot home.
The Lambs tried everything in the second half to get back on level terms, but Torpoint thought they had gone two up on the hour when Roberts broke free to pass to an unmarked colleague, but had strayed into an offside position.
Further chances for the Lambs went with Doncaster shooting at the keeper, Babb heading at the keeper from a Paul Smith corner, managing to pick up the rebound but having his shot blocked.
Torpoint sealed a good victory when Roberts put a through ball for Brian Stacey to go forward and give Meeds no chance.
A disappointing display from the Lambs where the breakthrough never looked like coming.
They are still ten points ahead of their nearest rivals Porthleven but have played three more games than them so it looks like being an exciting finish.
