Carlsberg South Western League
Tavistock 2
Truro City 1
THE Lambs moved into second spot in the table with this scrappy encounter at Langsford Park.
Will Westlake came into the starting line up at the expense of Lee Doncaster who began on the bench.
The first half produced little of note. For the Lambs Paul Smith stubbed his foot when shooting and Simon Parnell?s turn and shot came to nothing.
The half-time team talk must have done the trick for the Lambs as they went into the lead on 48 minutes. A free kick saw Parnell turn his marker and volley home Nathan Blamey?s through ball.
Truro bounced back and almost got the equaliser but Chris Davey?s shot across goal went just wide of the post with Andy Meeds beaten.
With 20 minutes left the Lambs increased their lead as James Cole?s cross came in, a hand went up and it was a penalty. Blamey made no mistake from the spot.
With ten minutes left the game should have been put beyond doubt as Westlake set up sub John Hadjiyianni but his shot was easily saved by the keeper.
Five minutes later the visitors were given a lifeline when Darren Babb was adjudged to be holding an opponent in the area for Matt Salmon to convert the spot kick. It set up an anxious end to the game for the Lambs and was not helped three minutes later by substitute Lee Doncaster who had only been on the park for eight minutes before he was sent off for remarks to an assistant official. But the Lambs held out to the final whistle.

Callington 1
Tavistock 4
THE Lambs could have been a goal up within the first minute when Lee Doncaster?s stab at the ball came back off keeper Steve Williams and Paul Smith?s follow up was cleared off the line.
The Lambs took the lead on the half-hour. Good inter-passing between John Gosling, Smith and Mark Wall allowed the latter to cross to the far post for Paul Adcock to send a looping header back across goal and settle into the net.
The Lambs were running the show with Gosling and Smith going close before they increased their lead eight minutes prior to the break. Simon Parnell?s persistence gave the Lambs a corner and from it Darren Babb headed powerfully home from James Cole?s cross.
Two minutes into the second half the Lambs went further ahead as Cole sent Parnell away to cross for Gosling to volley home.
On the hour the home side got on the scoresheet. Wall gave away a free kick for hand ball and Matt Hawke?s low drive seemed to have deceived keeper Andy Meeds to fly into the corner of the net .
It turned out to be no more than a consolation one as the Lambs showed their superiority as Sean Cann put Doncaster away down the middle to feed substitute Will Westlake, who without breaking stride sent in a curling shot that gave the keeper no chance.
Tavistock 2
Launceston 1
THE Lambs could count themselves fortunate to get all three points from this entertaining encounter against the Clarets last Tuesday week.
Launceston could have been ahead in the opening minutes had it not been for Andy Meeds? great save. Claret Matt Hutchins then volleyed over and hit the bar with another effort.
The one-touch football served up by the young and fast Clarets caused Tavistock problems in the opening half-hour with Meeds again saving from Hutchins.
The Lambs were fortunate to go ahead after 35 minutes. James Cole?s free kick was headed back across goal by Darren Babb and fell to Paul Smith who struck home low from 12 yards.
But with almost the final move of the first half the Clarets deservedly got back on level terms. From a quickly taken free kick Steve Oliver out-jumped Cole and headed high into the corner of the goal.
The visitors could have taken the lead in the opening minutes of the second period as a Cann mistake let in Oliver. His shot took a deflection to leave Sean Turner with an open goal but as he placed it into the corner Meeds came rushing back to claim it before it crossed the line. It turned out to be the last of the many chances that the visitors had created.
With 20 minutes remaining, substitutes Craig Hodge and John Hajiyianni came on to replace front pair Lee Doncaster and Simon Parnell. From the resultant corner Cole?s cross was headed home by Babb to put the Lambs in charge for the first time in the game.
