TAVISTOCK Ladies 1st XI Hockey Team played their first match of the season with a friendly against Newton Abbot.

Tavistock were quick to find the gaps and the ball was fed through from the midfield play of Susannah Boulle and Laura Stapleton.

Boulle hit the ball to a running Laura Armstrong who fast footed it around the opposition and scored the first goal of the match.

The defence of Tavistock was as strong as ever with Fiona Dunn making some good lead runs up the pitch.

White had the ball and crossed it to Gaspar who swiped it past the keeper.

Boulle, Stapleton and Barratt were strong through midfield and stand in goalkeeper, Robynne Honey, had quick reaction skills. A gap in Tavistock?s defence allowed the opposition to score, bringing the half-time score to 2-1.

In the second half White dropped to midfield and Barratt played on the forward line.

Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and these were taken well by Gaspar.

The ball was slotted from Butler across the ?D? allowing White to slot it past the keeper. Tavistock picked up their game and Gaspar scored her second goal taking the score to 4-1.

With only 10 minutes to go a loose tackle by one of the Tavistock players allowed Newton Abbot to run with the ball and slot it past Honey.

TAVISTOCK Ladies 1st XI Hockey team played a training game against Kelly College 1st XI.

The game opened with Tavistock heavily on the attack. Louise Bott scored the first goal for Tavistock, Gaspar then scored only minutes.

The Kelly girls were playing well and made some excellent linking movements together, at times far better than the Tavistock team. Laura Armstrong was goal hungry and scored her first goal of the match.

Tavistock had numerous short corners and it was through one of these that Stapleton scored her first goal of the match. The Kelly team distributed the ball well over the pitch and capitalised on the gap through the centre midfield of Tavistock.

Butler received the ball from Pitts and then scored her first goal of the match.

The final score was 4-0 to Tavistock. The score line however does not reflect the strength of the Kelly Girls. They never gave up and have the potential to be an extremely strong side in school girl hockey this year.

Player of The Match: Lisa Butler.
