THE Albaston mother-of-one who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident more than a fortnight ago is gradually recovering from her ordeal.
Kate Rackstraw, 23, was found lying at the side of Sand Lane in Calstock, near its junction with Higher Kelly, at 12.30am on Sunday July 25.
She was suffering from serious head and leg injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital where she was admitted to the intensive care ward.
She has now been moved out of intensive care to a general ward. Police Sgt Phil Bullen said she was undergoing treatment but her condition was improving.
Police are trying to trace witnesses to the accident which they believe happened shortly after 11.45pm on Saturday July 24, when Kate was returning to Albaston after spending the day at the Calstock Regatta and Bike Festival.
Reports suggest she may have lain injured at the side of Sand Lane for up to half an hour before being found, but latest inquiries, focussing on forensic material from the accident scene, have revealed little.
