Tavistock 0 Avonmouth Old Boys 17 TAVISTOCK?S spectacular journey in this season?s Powergen National Vase came to a halt at Sandy Park on Saturday at the hands of Avonmouth, who are currently leaders of the Gloucester Premier Division. Avonmouth used their pace outside the scrum for the basis of this victory and ran in two early tries from Charles Coulter and Richard Cousins for a ten point lead at the end of the first quarter. Tavistock came back into the game with their forwards shading the scrums and gaining parity at the lineout. This possession did not provide points for the home side despite long periods of pressure at the end of the first half and during the second. Wave after wave of attack by Tavistock forwards Andy Hunt, Tom Hurdwell, Paul Greenhill and Tom Dawe was repelled by Avoumouth. When Tavistock did spread the ball wide Josh Sutton, Mike Lyddon and Joe Lane were all closed down quickly. Tavistock were not helped by the loss of scrum half and captain Lee Greatrex at the end of the first half, but his replacement, colt Alex Moy, although inexperienced at this level battled hard and tried to make things happen. Avonmouth sealed the victory toward the end of the second half when they worked full back Matt Manual over for a try which he converted himself. This Saturday Tavistock will need to prove their bouncebackability when they entertain Liskeard Looe in the league. Kick off 2:30pm.
