A FIFTEEN-year-old Tavistock girl is getting her bike out ready for a sponsored cycle ride to fundraise for charity in memory of her uncle who died in a tragic accident 18 months ago.
Jordan Tillyer is riding her bicycle on Saturday from Tavistock to Plymouth City Moto Parc, Ernesettle, in memory of Si Higgins, a popular and well known moto-cross biker who died while he was preparing a moto-cross circuit in South Devon last year.
Jordan will be accompanied on the 14 mile ride by her father Mark Tillyer, who runs the Tavistock garage TyreMarks in Pixon Lane.
Last year the teenager raised £2,000 by running five miles, most of it uphill, from Tavistock to Brentor Church. This year she will be raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance.
Her mother Farrah Higgins, Si's sister, said she had chosen that charity because at the time of Si's accident, the Devon Air Ambulance was not able to land to assist her brother because it had no lights. A police helicopter was used instead. Now Jordan wants to raise money to make sure the DAA has that facility.
Farrah said: 'We are very proud of Jordan and what she is doing. It was her idea and she wants to make an annual charity event in memory of Si but to do something different each year.'
Jordan this week appealed to Times readers to support her efforts: 'Please get behind me. I would like to raise more than last year either through Just Giving or you can use the sponsorship forms.
'Remember you never know when you or your family may need the Devon Air Ambulance. Thank you for your support.'
Sponsorship forms are available from TyreMarks or donate online at justgiving.com/farrah-higgins
