THE 151st annual meeting of Tavistock Cricket Club was held last week.
Two significant changes to the leadership of the club brought in a new chairman and a new captain.
The new chairman is John Perkin, who is still enjoying a playing career at The Ring that began in the 1950s. An Old boy of Kelly College, he is a well-known local farmer.
As captain, the club welcomes back a former player in Steve Luffman. Steve returns to the Ring after spending most of the 90s playing for Plymouth.
The meeting decided to offer life membership to Jack Davey, the former Gloucestershire professional who began his cricket career with Tavistock, his home town club, and to John Gauler, a great servant of the club in many capacities over a long period.
John Gauler was also appointed to fill the vacancy as a club trustee.
Other appointments made included: president, Clifford Alford; vice-chairman, Stuart Munday; treasurer, Margaret Alford; fixtures secretary, Mike Ancil; social secretary, John Rich, press officer, Gerry Woodcock.
The new vice-captain of the First Eleven will be David Manning, who has made such an impression in recent seasons with both bat and gloves.
The Second Eleven will be led by Geoff Crudgington, and the vice-captain is Maurice Craze.
The club is anxious to encourage new players to join, and welcomes new talent of all ages.
Anyone who might be interested is invited to contact any of the officers.
Details of net practice arrangements will be published soon.
