A DESPERATE plea for help was this week issued by a Tavistock-based group, which says its internationally recognised collection is under threat. The Robey Trust, whose collection of engines is held in high regard by such august bodies as the London Science Museum, says it is fighting for survival in the light of a cash crisis and lack of regular volunteers. Gerald Williamson, trust supporter, said the trust was in a ?fairly desperate situation?. ?If the trust doesn?t get some well deserved help and support it will go under. ?But it?s unique and it?s in Tavistock ? it?s a jewel in the crown and belongs to the local people,? said Mr Williamson. Trust members say the collection, built up over more than 20 years, has the potential to be a world class tourist attraction ? but unless more volunteers step forward to help support its work, its viability is threatened. There are a wide variety of volunteering opportunities with the Robey Trust, including administration, typing, accounting, builders, engineering and fundraising.
