YELVERTON'S teenaged swimming star Jan Langton has notched another row of successes, after she competed in the Disability Sport England Short Course National Gala at Sheffield last weekend.

Jan, a student at Tavistock College, scooped two silver medals and three bronze at the gala, which is being used by talent spotters for elite UK disability swimming squads.

Jan, 17, won silver for the 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley; she won her bronze medals in the 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

Jan's mum Helen Langton said: 'Out of nine events she got seven personal best times, so you can't ask for more than that — and the events in which she got the silver were won by the world record holder, Nyree Lewis. She had a very good weekend.'

Jan has now been invited to compete at a big national disabled swimming gala in Swansea at the end of November, in celebration of the opening of the city's new pool.

Helen said: 'It will be a very big meet — anyone who is anyone in disabled swimming will be there. They will be using that event, last weekend's and the junior nationals for the "potential" and "start squads", which deals with funding as well as competing.'
