OKEHAMPTON Cycle Club members were in action last Wednesday, competing in the ten-mile time trial hosted by Sid Valley Cycle Club on the A30 course at Honiton.

A field of 36 cyclists took part in the event, and with a headwind and overcast weather conditions, which threatened rain, it was not an evening for fast times.

Simon Perrett was the fastest Okehampton rider with a time of 25.09 followed by Mike Rice 25.26 and Tony Johnston 26.42.

The one bright spot was Jacky Rice picking up the prize for being the fastest lady on the night with 25.41.

Okehampton Cycle Club summer time trial series continued last Thursday with an excellent turnout of ten competitors taking part in a ride against the clock from Bridestowe to Lewdown and back on the old A30 road.

Despite less than ideal conditions with the hindrance of a headwind a new course record was set and a number of riders achieved personal best times which brought smiles to a few faces.

Andy Retter, riding the course for the first time, achieved the best time of the night and set a new course record, clocking 25.47. Sean Quigly came second with 27.48 and Mike Rice was third with 29.47.
