IT LOOKS like there could be a way forward for Albaston Village Green which was at risk of closing if new trustees could not be found to manage it.
The trustees had dwindled from 11 to four and some of them had indicated they wished to step down leaving the green's future in doubt.
But following an extraordinary meeting three people have shown an interest in joining the committee and Calstock Parish Council is considering whether to take on the public liability insurance and cutting the grass.
The green was created to celebrate the Millennium — one of only three in Cornwall that were — and has been well used in the community for fetes, music events and primary school activities.
Trustee Ginny Jackets said the committee had struggled to get new members for three years but it now looked as if things were looking up.
'We had a very good meeting and not only do we have some more people interested in helping but the parish council is looking into the possibility of helping us run the green' she said. 'The trustees could then be responsible for fundraising.'
Mrs Jackett said it would be great if the Millennium green could be looked after in the same way as the Harrowbarrow and Metherell Woodland Park which the parish council had also taken over the maintenance for.
'We are looking at Harrowbarrow as a model,' she said. 'Obviously we will give the parish council the money we have left so it is not all put on the taxpayer but it is a community green after all.'
She added extra seating and equipment like moveable goal posts and cricket sets could be bought with fundraising.
'It's just a case of getting all the trustees and the parish council together and see if we can find a way forward,' she said.
