TAVISTOCK'S Bob Chapman won gold at the British Veterans' Athletics Championships.
Bob won the 1,500m in 4 minutes 44.6 seconds in the 55+ age group and later in the day went on to take the silver medal in the 5,000m.
The championships took place at the Copthall Stadium, Hendon, in very hot and sticky conditions.
Bob was running for South West Veterans and was delighted to win a national title. He is retired from the Royal Navy, but still competes regularly for RNAC in the Westward Cross-Country League and in various track races in the summer.
Bob lives in Violet Lane and trains on Whitchurch Down and Plasterdown.
This summer, as well as training at Brickfields track in Plymouth, he has trained around the Ring on Whitchurch Down with some of the Tavistock AC middle distance athletes.
In the winter Bob says 'the hard sustained sessions' in the Meadows with Tavistock AC runners have been 'very beneficial'.
