The crash on Gunnislake’s Newbridge has been the big news in the area this week, but as usual there’s been loads going on in Tavistock — here are the big stories in this week’s edition of the Tavistock Times:

• TRAVELLERS along the A390 have been hit with major diversions again as Gunnislake’s Newbridge has been closed after a car collided with the ancient bridge on Tuesday, causing structural damage.

• ‘We need you, our members, we need your help as always’ — that was the declaration from the chairman of the Tavistock and District Chamber of Commerce at the organisation’s annual meeting held on Monday night.

• ITV has confirmed that film crews will be visiting Horrabridge over the summer to shoot several scenes for new series Glass Houses, starring Dawn French.

• A welcoming party gathered on Bedford Square in Tavistock on Saturday to congratulate the ‘Rowing Marine’ Lee Spencer on his return from his record-breaking row across the Atlantic.

• ‘A lot has been achieved, but there is a great deal of work to be done’ — Tavistock Town Mayor Cllr Paul Ward told visitors to last week’s annual town meeting.

• Buckland Monachorum Primary School has been celebrating winning a special national award for encouraging its pupils in competitive sport.
