CAN I congratulate West Devon Borough Council on the new board at Weir Quay? Can I also inform the public of yet another waste of funds due to the borough council's ineptitude? The original board had to be replaced as it showed a cycle route running from Bere Alston to Tavistock along the old railway, which as yet doesn't exist.

As the route runs through my property I informed the borough council, who eventually agreed to replace the sign. However, when pressed to inform the public as to exactly which parts of the cycle route are available for public use they refused.

They stated in the Times last week that the track between Bere Alston and Rumleigh is not open to the public, so do we therefore  assume the rest is open? And if so who is responsible for public liability in the event of an accident or damage to private property?

The borough council says the problem lies with Devon County Council. The county council has informed me that part of the railway is open in parts, yet won't be drawn on public liability.

If the route is open, can the county council or borough council please let the public know to avoid any future misunderstanding? And if not, why not?
