Horrabridge Rangers Sports Association is storming ahead with plans to secure funding for a new pavilion at its home ground of Fillace Park.
A new committee, comprised of members of the Rangers, the local parish council and Horrabridge Recreation Field Trust, set up to take the project forward, is currently trying to source the required funding and is looking at various funding streams such as The Football Foundation, National Lottery, Postcode Lottery, Devon County Council and West Devon Borough Council in addition to local fundraising.
The original building was designed as a King George V pavilion in the 1930s and then refurbished in the 1970s, having served as a base for the football club since 1925 and has also benefitted the community as a whole in Horrabridge.
The pavilion has gradually become run down over time and is now proving costly to repair. The committee has already gained planning permission to replace the current building from Dartmoor National Park and aims to secure the required funds within the next 12 months.
Club secretary Ian Mulholland said: ‘We’ve got a great team working on this at the moment. We’re very confident we can gain the funding we need and that this is a viable committee that we have going with councillors and members of the Horrabridge Recreation Field Trust.
‘Our MP Sir Geoffrey Cox, regional and local councillors Phillip Sanders and Diana Moyse and Devon FA CEO Paul Morrison are all supporting the Pavilion Project which was highlighted by The Football Foundation’
The Rangers are also hosting a series of different events throughout the coming months to raise funds, all of which will be put towards the new pavilion. These include: Bingo at The London Inn on Saturday, February 5, a sponsored fun run including the youth teams in May, an over 30s football match in June and a reunion dinner and auction in August.
Ian added: ‘These events will be really well attended and have already had huge interest through social media. Hopefully we can do similiar events more regularly to raise money for the new pavilion.’
