TWO residents of West Devon and one from East Cornwall were honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours list and a previous OBE winner has received her honour from Prince Charles. In the new honours list, Nicki Lyons, of Callington, was awarded the MBE for her voluntary service to the Search and Rescue Dog Association and for her involvement with Mountain Rescue. Nicki has been a volunteer for 26 years, handling dogs for two decades, and is a member of the Tavistock branch of Dartmoor Search and Rescue. Nicki, who is chairman of the Tavistock branch, said the whole team thought the MBE was 'fantastic'. 'It is for all of them, not just for me. We work as a team,' she said. She has assisted police in numerous murder investigations, as well as the Lockerbie air disaster in Scotland in 1988. She said the award was 'a total shock' and she did not know who had nominated her. 'I just got home and the letter was there from the Cabinet Office.' Kitty Webber, 72, of Exbourne, was awarded the MBE for her services to the community as a volunteer ambulance hospital driver. She has been taking sick people from their homes to hospital since 1968 and still makes regular journeys to hospitals in Devon and Cornwall. Kitty said to be honoured in this way was 'very emotional' and it was 'just a voluntary job and a way of helping people who need it'. Nicola Francis from Tavistock was awarded the OBE previously in recognition of her work as a debt enforcement project manager for the Child Support Agency. She was presented with her honour by Prince Charles at the recent investiture at Buckingham Palace.
