Tavistock A 4 Marjons of Plymouth C 4 Tavistock Men?s seconds played their first warm-up match of the new season on Saturday, a home friendly against Marjons ?C? side. Despite controlling much of the game,Tavistock found themselves a goal down after 20 minutes when a Marjons free hit was not cleared in front of goal. It was almost half time before the home side finally found the net. A well-struck shot from a narrow angle by captain Phil Honey being deflected past the Marjons keeper. Tavistock continued to dominate and twice took the lead with goals from Jake Doney and Adam Holland. Due to slack defending against Marjons free hits, the visitors enjoyed a 4-3 lead with just five minutes to go. A second goal from Doney levelled the score before the final whistle. This was an encouraging start for Tavistock, especially for the previously injured Nick Aveyard who controlled nearly all of Tavy?s attacking play and was deservedly named man of the match. A tougher game is in prospect next week, as the seconds take on their own first team in a final friendly at Kelly Colllege before the league matches start the following Saturday. Starting at 4.30pm.
