A FORMER Tavistock College student whose son was born with a genetic skin blistering disease, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), attended a special prize draw at Halwill last week to benefit EB charity DebRA. Maria Hughes and her partner Bryan Choules went to the Anglers? Paradise last Tuesday for the raffle. Up for grabs was a £600 holiday at the Anglers? Paradise ? a prize the owners Zyg and Rose Gregorek offered for free in order to support DebRA. Around 7,000 raffle tickets were sold raising £7,000 for DebRA. Mrs Gregorek drew the winning ticket which went to Anna Booth from Dorset. DebRA supports families affected by the skin condition EB. It is genetic and affects around 5,000 children and adults in the UK, with around 500,000 thought to be affected world-wide. Maria?s 15-year-old son Robert was born with non-lethal Junctional EB and he has been supported by DebRA nurses and the social care team throughout his life. His condition means he has trouble walking and uses crutches. Robert also has internal problems so eating and gaining nutrients is difficult. The family are strong DebRA supporters and have raised funds for the charity over the years. Yvonne Partridge, regional fundraising manager who organised the raffle, said: ?Zyg and Rose have been unbelievably generous by offering this fantastic holiday as a prize. ?Anglers? Paradise is such a special place with great fishing lakes, although it is not just for anglers as there are many other great facilities. ?Many thanks also to Maria and Bryan for taking part in the draw. Their ongoing support is much appreciated.?
