THE last few weeks have been eventful for Tavistock Men?s 1st XI team. Firstly Tavistock travelled to Bridgwater to hold the eventual league winners to a 3-3 draw and equalise with the last shot of the game! This delayed the champagne celebrations for a week in Somerset but was a valuable exercise in what was required the following day. Tavistock never having reached the lofty heights of the quarter finals of the Devon Cup, were drawn against Ashmoor, the high flying team who have beaten good opposition in their route through the early rounds. An exciting and mobile game ended in Tavistock winning 4-2 and reaching the semis with great anticipation. Tavistock have recently drawn 3-3 with Bridport in a league fixture and ended the league third from bottom, well away from the relegation points. This is a massive achievement for Tavistock who were newly promoted last season and have witnessed most teams travel back down the leagues the following season. Next season the team need to build on the experiences gained and bring through some of the younger players that have developed in an improving 2nd team squad. This coming weekend Tavistock face Marjons in the semi final of the Devon Cup. Never achieving such success in the cup before, they find themselves drawn against the newly promoted national league side. This is not only an enormous mountain to climb, against such lofty opposition (a full five leagues apart) but will be a massive experience for some of the younger players in the team, who are looking forward to the contest. The match will be at Marjons on Saturday at 12.30pm, all added support will be welcome.
