A ?SUITABLE? topic is on the agenda for the next meeting of Okehampton Local History Society. Paul Rendell will be the speaker at the history society?s next meeting on Wednesday December 12. His talk will be on Dartmoor pubs which the history society said is ?a suitable topic for a meeting before Christmas!? Mr Rendell is a well-known local historian with an intimate knowledge of Dartmoor and has close links with the Dartmoor Preservation Association. The meeting will begin at 7.30pm at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton. The history society meets on the second Wednesday of every month. They welcome new members and anyone interested should contact the secretary, Malcolm Francis-Lang on 01837 840158. Pamela Galloway, of the Okehampton local history society, added: ?We are delighted to learn that the future of the Ockment Centre is now more certain. It is anticipated that meetings will be able to be held there for the next few months at least.?
