AN article in the Times earlier last week has sparked the return of a much-loved item to a West Devon pub. A rosewood chair disappeared from the Highwayman Inn at Sourton in February — it went missing around the time of a visit by an unknown sports team. The chair had belonged to landlady Sally Thomson's grandmother and was of great sentimental value. Sally said: 'Through the picture being in the paper we were contacted by some people and the information that we gained led me to a team member. 'I found a number on the internet and contacted the secretary. She got hold of the manager and now the items have been returned to me. 'He said they were good boys really — some of them had had a pint of my cider which is lethal, even the local lads can't always handle it!' Sally said she was 'thrilled to bits' the chair had been returned to the pub, which is famous for its collection of antiques and curios. 'I was quite emotional actually, I'd just imagined it being thrown into a hedge somewhere and I had such happy memories of it — it's nice to think it's come back home,' said Sally. 'This pub is a bit of a landmark and people were very upset when they heard about the chair going missing. It's a bit of a museum here, it's not like nicking a plastic chair you could get anywhere.' Sally said a fire extinguisher which went missing at the same time as the chair had also been returned, fully charged. As a result of the return of the missing items, Sally is making a donation to Devon Air Ambulance. 'Everyone in the area can benefit then — it's lovely to have the things back and I certainly appreciate the power of the press now!' she said.
