WEST Devon modern pentathlete Heather Fell put in a first class performance this week in a bid to help promote the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Heather from Merrivale was asked to join her fellow Britain's Modern Pentathletes who are based at the University of Bath to help launch the second of Royal Mail's collection of stamps to highlight the games.

Heather featured in her equestrian gear in the special promo-tional photographs.  The stamps have been issued to mark a key milestone in the countdown — two years to the opening ceremony to the Olympic Games on July 27, 2012.

The latest issue, 'On Track for 2012', has been on sale from July 27 and features a fresh set of ten dynamic images championing Olympic and Paralympic sports. In total Royal Mail will issue 30 first class stamps in the run-up to the 30th Olympiad and London 2012 Paralympic Games, as part of its role as an official licensee of the Games. The stamps feature established Olympic and Paralympic sports like hockey, goalball and football, and more recent additions including taekwondo and BMX cycling.

Modern pentathlon is one of Britain's most successful Olympic sports with Steph Cook winning gold and Tavistock's Kate Allenby bronze in Sydney in 2000, Georgina Harland a bronze in Athens in 2004 while Heather Fell took silver in Beijing two years ago.
