EXPERIENCE the unique call of the nightjar in an atmospheric setting tomorrow (Friday) with local bird enthusiast Richard Hibbert.

The Tamar Trails, near Gulworthy, is the venue to find out more about this nocturnal bird.

The event starts at 7pm with a talk by Richard, followed by soup and a roll at the newly opened Beech Café, then out onto the trails hopefully to see and hear the nightjar.

Becki Lumbis, from the Tamar Valley AONB team, said: 'Nightjars are summer visitors to the Tamar Valley, arriving in April for a short breeding season.

'Their habitat is heathland and forest clearings and in the Tamar Valley they live on a former mine site, near Gulworthy, where the mine spoil has been regenerated as open heathland with occasional scrub trees and pines.'

Participants should meet at the Tamar Trails Centre, Gulworthy, at 7pm. Please bring a torch, wear suitable footwear and dress for the weather.

The cost is £5 per person, which is payable on the day.
