OPERATION Sunshine South West will be this year's chosen charity for the Kelly College Ball, due to be held on Saturday July 7.

Friends of Kelly College chairman Clare Meachin said they were 'delighted' to be able to help support such an important local charity.

'Operation Sunshine does a remarkable job sending practical aid to so many people in need in East Africa,' said Clare.

Operation Sunshine co-ordinator Ann Tregarthen said: 'Operation Sunshine is a Christian charity now in its 31st year.

'Every year recently Operation Sunshine South West has been able to send six 40ft ship's containers to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania, each of these containers is packed to the roof with much needed humanitarian aid.

'These containers are only sent to a named consignee who then distributes the education supplies including school furniture, clothing, tools craft supplies and basic medical goods to those in need.

'Operation Sunshine aims to give people the means to become self sufficient and from frequent emails and photos we know that lives are changing.

'Each container costs over £8,000 and we rely totally on the generosity and support of individuals and local community groups.'

The theme of this year's ball will be the Olympics — an appropriate link as the school has had many Olympic medal winners throughout its history.

The evening will include fireworks, fairground rides, dancing, live band, disco, photographer, magicians and dinner.
