Carlsberg South Western League Newquay 2 Tavistock 3 THREE away games in eight days, three wins and nine points sees the Lambs maintain their top of the table challenge to creep further up the table and claim fifth spot. At a windy Mount Wise it was a mixture of missed chances from both sides, good defensive and goalkeeping with an exciting and heart stopping finale for the Lambs to come away with the three points. The Lambs started well and took the lead on 15 minutes. Chris Menhenick?s long throw in caused confusion in the area for John Hajiyianni to strike. Five minutes later they were back on even terms. Chances for each side went begging with James Steer shooting at keeper Scott Palmer after Hajiyianni and Glynn Hobbs had set him up. Meeds palmed away a Dave Rathbone effort for a corner. The Lambs should have wrapped up this game in the first 20 minutes of the second half. In the 46th minute Hobbs raced away but a touch on the ball saw him lose control of it and the chance was missed. The Lambs got their noses in front just after the hour when Stringer hassled Russell into a mistake just inside his own half for Hobbs to slot home. Newquay were never going to lie down and pressurised the Lambs onto the defensive in the last 15 minutes. It was no surprise that the home side drew level with a minute remaining. A free kick followed by a corner saw the ball fall for Lee Carhart to stab home from close range for the home side to celebrate a great come back. But their celebrations lasted less than a minute when from the kick off the Lambs broke forward for Hobbs to send Steer away down the left to cut inside to the edge of the area to shoot low., Palmer got a hand to it but could not hang on and Stringer following up lashed the loose ball high into the net for a dramatic winner. The team had to endure a further five minutes of added time to come out grateful victors.
