THE spectacular RAF Harrowbeer 1940s Weekend due to take place later this month has been cancelled.
Organisers the RAF Harrowbeer Interest Group (HIG) said it had delayed calling off the event, scheduled for August 22 and 23, for as long as possible in the hope that the lockdown rules would be relaxed.
Stephen Fryer from the group said, however: ‘It was becoming clear that it simply wasn’t going to be possible to safely have such a potential large gathering of people at the show.
‘As a free entry event, it would be impossible for us to record visitor contact details which would be required if anyone later proved to be Covid-19 positive.’
This year’s event was going to include a flypast from a Battle of Britain Spitfire,
HIG said it would now look forward to 2021 when it will be the 80th anniversary of the airfield’s opening and it would be launching a fundraising appeal for this in due course.Further details on this can be found at www.rafharrowbeer1940s.com
