East Cornwall division one Bere Alston United 5 Nanpean Rovers 0 Another impressive team display saw Bere further enhance their promotion credentials with an emphatic win over a decent Nanpean Rovers outfit. Nanpean started strongly and had the better of the opening exchanges, but with Bere once again defending doggedly, Ross Hann, who had been recalled into the first team by Kevin Taylor, repaid his manager with two well taken goals just before the break. The first was a solo effort from the edge of the penalty area and the second was delightfully lifted over the advancing Nanpean keeper after being put through by Nathan Harvey. The game was effectively killed off two minutes into the second half when a driven cross from James Crawford was deflected in at the far post for his first goal of the season and Bere's third of the afternoon. Nanpean were now in disarray and further goals were added by Dan Follett and Chris Green, his first for the club. Both were identical, quick thinking finishes on the rebound after two close range efforts from Will Westlake had been parried by the Nanpean keeper. This was very much a complete team performance and a third clean sheet means Bere now have the best defensive record in the division to date. Man of match for Bere: Mark Wheeler. St Columb Major 1 Tavistock 2nds 2 TAVISTOCK had to work hard for the vital three points to stay top of the table against a well organised St Columb Major. New signing Shane Anderton partnered Cowling up front for Tavistock and Aaron Rocky filled Luke McPherson's boots in midfield, due to his call up to the Tavistock 1st team. The game started well and all the chances fell to Tavistock, with Matt Allen, Cowling and Anderton all shooting wide. Against the run of play a rare mistake from goalkeeper Rowe and defender Parnoski led to St Columb Major's Scott Taylor lofting the ball in the back of the net to take the lead. In the second half Tavistock had to pull together and push for the equaliser. The decision to replace a striker for a defender paid off when a Jamie Martin cross fell to Paul Cowling in the box, who threw himself to head home. Both teams strove hard for the winner, but Tavistock were the victors thanks to a Beckham- style free kick from Andy Bacon nestling in the corner of the net. Chris Bray, Aaron Rocky, Matt Allen and new signing Ben Stevens played well for the visitors.
