COMMITMENT is key — that was the message at the presentation of Duke of Edinburgh awards to members of Tavy Division Girlguiding Senior Section recently.

Carrie Johnson of Tavistock, a former chair of Tavistock Outdoor Education Forum who herself gained the Gold award, spoke in recognition of the commitment required to achieve the guides' given level of award.

She reflected on the expedition undertaken as part of each Duke of Edinburgh award, by far the most challenging aspect, but  also commented on the commitment shown within the volunteering aspect of the scheme.

Many girls, having completed the DofE requirement, have continued helping at units within the division, undertaking training to become young leaders.
